“Growing Up Hilt” is a 200 page memoir by Wendy Hilt starting in childhood, teen years, first love, career start in local radio, transitioning to large market radio in St. Louis. Wendy spent time with the St. Louis Cardinals Major League Baseball Team selling game broadcasts and promotions at Busch Stadium. She left KMOX when the Cardinals left for another station after 51 years on KMOX.
Wendy went to work with automotive powerhouse: Autotrader.com to sell listings and promotions. Promoted to be a part of the National Team handling six brands of new cars and facilitating certified preowned and new car sales on a national level travelling the entire US to prospect, present, and service accounts.
Diagnosed with bipolar disorder in 2006
Wendy has suffered from bipolar disorder her entire life. Most people could tell something was different, but they never knew what. She didn’t discover that she suffered from bipolar until she had excelled despite the stress and demanding lifestyle.
Growing Up Hilt is a chronicle of Wendy’s life and her understanding of her condition, as well as how it affected her version of family and life. We are working to get it published, and will let you know when and how it becomes available. We expect it to be on sale sometime in 2026.
Bipolar Disorder is a lifelong, chronic illness that is generally thought to be inherited and run in families. It is characterized by extreme shifts in moods, energy, and activity levels. Symptoms include manic or depressive states that cannot be predicted. Science is discovering that people with bipolar disorder appear to have changes in their brains, though the importance of these changes is not yet understood.
The ongoing illness is treated by a psychiatrist with medications and psychotherapy. Treatment can last for years, and it is considered incurable. Bipolar Disorder affects 2.6% of the adults 18+ population.
